Although we have described this species this year, the first records date back more than 200 years (Batista et al. (2025). Overlooked for 200 years: a new species of Sacoila (Orchidaceae) from the Espinhaço mountain range of Minas Gerais and Bahia, Brazil. Phytotaxa 705 (1): 001–018. https://doi.org/10.11646/phytotaxa.705.1.1). The species is restricted to the Serra do Espinhaço mountain range in Minas Gerais and Bahia, and differs from S. lanceolata in that it flowers during the rainy season, has pseudopeciolate leaves with a conspicuous hyaline margin, present during flowering, generally short inflorescence, orange flowers, and occurs in rocky fields at altitudes between 800 and 1,600 metres.
